Shah went to medical school. While in school, he realized that his passion was in accounting. He worked in some firms that include Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and Credit Suisse. He also used to work for Dutch bank Rabobank and ING. The financial crisis rendered him redundant in 2009. He started a brokerage company after job prospects became few and that originated Solo Capital. He also founded Autism Rocks, an organization with the objective of creating awareness about autism. It also has a goal of raising funds for research on the condition through concerts.
His focus on the condition was sharpened after his youngest son was diagnosed with autism. Before that, Shah had been sponsoring children in India. However, he did not have a single focus on what he could do for a charity. Currently, Shah spends much of his time on his philanthropic endeavors with Autism Rocks. He organizes shows under the Autism Rocks banner. The first show featured Prince and was a great success. Shah was able to raise £200,000.
