As a student at the University of Michigan, Adam Sender had an eye for a good thing when he saw it, investments and increasing his own capital. It was in the early part of the 1990’s when Adam became the top trader at Steve Cohen’s SAC Capital and ventured out on his own starting Exis Capital Management, where he used his education and invested in his future.

Since that time, Adam Sender (as profiled in this Observer article) has continued investing, but in art instead of stock and bonds. Starting his collection with a piece of art here and there, the accumulation of art pieces to date is huge, in the hundreds plus. His most recent piece is the talk of the town. Sender recently purchased at auction, the original piece of paper Bob Dylan scribbled out one of his famous hits “Times They Are A Changin”.

Just recently Sender purchased Dylan’s original handwritten song for $422,500 at auction, more than $100K over the estimate, which certainly proves times they are still a changin. His collection over the last decade has grown and he now has a full-time curator managing his collectibles.

Some of his notable contemporary art includes Matthew Barney, Kara Walker, Keith Haring, Banks Violette, and Damien Hirst to mention a few, and he owns more than 800 art items. Some of which will be going on the auction block at Sotheby’s Auctions.

One of his recent collectibles, a John Currin painting he bought for a meager $140,000, sold for $1.4 million a few years after purchase. Sender certainly has an eye for what’s in and what’s out, to the consternation of the art galleries.

Sender’s wealth doesn’t end with his love for art. He owns a 6,300 square foot penthouse apartment with three terraces on the 36th floor, located in the SoHo area of Manhattan, New York. Although garage space is limited in New York City, he keeps his collection of 14 automobiles at his weekend getaway home in the Hamptons. Aside from his Land Rovers, Porsches, and Benzes, his collectible treasure in automobiles is a 1973 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, I don’t know the color, but I’d guess black for its classy appearance. If you have never seen a Cadillac Eldorado from the 70’s, they are the class of luxury in vehicles from that era, and you need a couple of parking spaces if you parallel park.

He also owns a spread at Sag Harbor for the scenic escape, and a beautiful home in Bel Air.

Yes, he is married to Lenore “Leni” Sender and they reside at their penthouse apartment in Manhattan, NY where they can be found most of the time enjoying the good life.
